It is very difficult to live alone. There is need of the company of friends, relatives to live happy and peaceful life. Books can be our best friends in our free time and give a lot of pleasure. It is true that we cannot live without friends. But it is a fact that books can be good friends for us forever. Books teach us important lessons. Books guide us how to face problems in different situations of life. Books increase the power of imagination.Books teach us important lessons in life. We gain real experience of life from books. Books give us guidelines to do everything properly in life and show us the right direction. There are a lot of books I have read in my life but my favorite book is Ramayana and My Experiments with the truth.Books are the precious lifeblood of masterminds. They contain the best thoughts and feelings of their writers, they are written after years of labor and patient study. A good book is the outcome of years of labor spent by the author.
I have the great passion for books. Books have given me much, taught me much. Books have given me experiences of life. I feel rooted in the past. It is as though I have been going through a process of purification. My favorite book is the Ramayana by the great poet Tulsidas. I heard it in the lap of my mother; its couplets ran into me as I sat by her knee side as a boy. I learned many chaupaies by heart in my boyhood. Today I am wiser for it. It has become my friend, philosopher, and guide. It has become a part of my life now.
The story is too well known to be narrated in detail. The deep knowledge of Hindu culture in the book is very clear. Ram represents all that is good. Ravana stands for the evil force. Ram’s victory over Ravana means the victory of good over evil.
The book is full of conceptions of Indian philosophy. In simple verse, the deepest secrets of divine knowledge are explained. Doubts shatter after its study. Pride melts away. Evil thoughts escape. Greediness gallops away. Anger attacks no more. Its study makes a man. Its touch is very exchanging and highly effective.
The composition of the book is beyond description and it has been written by great writer Valmiki. Many have become famous by just explaining a part of it. It has been translated into more than 100 languages of the world. Foreigners have known India through it. I bow my head to the great saint Tulsidas who has widespread India glory through it
Another book that has impressed me most is my experiments with truth written by Mahatma Gandhi. It is the most interesting book that I have read. It is written in simple language. As I read the book, I came to know that Mahatma Gandhi was not born great. He became great because he followed the path of truth. Here he records his experiences. Many times he had to suffer, but the stuck to the principle of truth. He was a man of conviction. He never compromised with what he considered wrong. The whole book depicts Gandhiji struggle for truth. This is the story of a man who practiced in his life whatever he preached the episodes recorded in this book are entertaining as well as instructive. Each time I read this book great work of art it widens my knowledge and opens new horizons.
